“Your kingdom come, on earth as it is in heaven.” Matthew 6:10
Dear friends,
The youth protests we have been seeing in France have spread across Europe. In the US, the midterms have brought a Democratic sweep, bringing rejoicing for some and disappointment for others. Whatever our positions on these political matters, I know all of us hope for something better.
As Christians, we are called to pray that the kingdom of our Father in heaven would come.
The late pastor Dr Voddie Baucham said, “There is no governmental transformation that can bring the peace that Christ came to bring.” So, it is in the rule of the King of Kings alone that we can place our hope.
We are not called to believe that the end of suffering, injustice and evil will happen through our efforts now. The kingdom of peace will only truly arrive with the return of the Risen King.
But we are also not called to passive indifference with nothing to do until Jesus arrives. Christians should increasingly share the Fathers heart, loving what he loves and hating what he hates. So we cannot help but live as kingdom people even before the fulness of the kingdom arrives.
We cannot cause the sun to rise, but we can display more and more rays of the breaking sunrise. The kingdom began on Easter morning, with the resurrection of its king. As that resurrection power brings more and more dead hearts to life, the sunrise advances.
Whatever happens next, our ultimate hope is not in a movement or a political party. It is in Jesus, the King of kings.
Come Lord Jesus, come.
